Amerin Whisnant J.D., M.Ed.
Compassionate and Focused
I graduated from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1998, and also received a Master’s in Education from Texas State University in 1999. Before law school I served, one year as a VISTA volunteer, and another year as an AmeriCorps volunteer in San Antonio. I practiced Environmental and Administrative Law for several years after law school, working at the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, while also serving as an attorney ad litem for child welfare (CPS) cases. After taking time off to start a family and homeschooling my three amazing children, I recently came back to practice family law. I have been practicing family law since 2018.
I am keeping my practice small, so you will get focused attention on your case. I am compassionate about these areas I am choosing to work in, and willing to discuss sliding scale fees.
Personal Background
I am originally from Buffalo, New York, where I grew up, and received my B.A. Cum Laude, from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1993. I have lived in Texas since 1993 and have made my home in Austin since 1997, I have been married to my wonderful husband Rod Whisnant, since 1997, and we have three wonderful children.
We have been parishioners at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic church for over 15 years, and volunteer with many activities there and elsewhere. Our family provides respite care for foster children and foster families, a much needed service. When I am not working, I enjoy trips to the beach with my family, playing with our dog Topo Chico and our two cats.
